<g:title>Western Yarrow (Achillea millefolium var. occidentalis)</g:title>
      <g:description>
Western Yarrow is a powerful pioneer plant, lawn substitute, and pollinator power. It is a fantastic plant for remediation of polluted lands. It will grow in any situation except full shade or fully saturated soils. Yarrow is one of the few wildflowers that can handle mowing & foot traffic on a fairly regular basis while staying green through out the summer with little irrigation making it a fantastic lawn substitute! It has powerful rhizomes allowing it to both spread out and resist weed competition (perfect for lawn replacement and erosion control). It's deer and rabbit resistant, attractive to pollinators, and is a great cut flower for bouquets! Yarrow was historically used as an agricultural cover crop as well! It is a fantastic choice for difficult to fill locations, sun baked corners, or parking strips where a plant and forget option is needed. As payback for your neglect, Yarrow will give you flowers! It tends to bloom non stop from April until late October (sometimes even till January). And, it will bring all of the good bugs! Yarrow is very attractive to predatory insects (natural pesticide) and pollinators! For this reason it is an excellent companion plant to plant near your veggie garden. In addition, Yarrow also has a lot of beneficial properties that make it an excellent herb to add to your oil infusions for salves!

Each seed packet contains 100 seeds and germination instructions are included.

Western Yarrow at a glance

Ave. growth dimensions - 1-2 feet tall x 2+ feet wide

Dormancy - Winter deciduous

Plant type - Perennial herb

Sun - Full sun

Water - Moist - dry

Flowering time - April - October

Flower color - White - pink

Soil preference -  Highly adaptable

</g:description>

      <g:title>Douglas Spirea  (Spiraea douglasii)</g:title>
      <g:description>
Douglas Spirea is a gorgeous, and very drought tolerant, native wetland shrub. While it does have a deserved reputation for being thicket forming, this tendency can be mitigated by greatly reducing the water it has access to. Much of it's aggressive growth occurs in bogs and wetlands where it has access to year around water. Despite being a plant of wet places, this plant is capable of growing in full sun, in the height of baking summer heat in the PNW without irrigation. Douglas Spirea is tolerant of many soil types and is just as happy to grow in part shade as it is in full sun. It's an excellent plant for rain gardens, hedges, fencelines, along roadways, and neglected corners where you want something nice to look at.

I have a couple planted with a few young Scouler's Willows in a section of pasture that used to turn into a flowing stream each Winter. They have effectively stopped the water run-off. Now the water pools for a short time, and is able to soak into the soil in place! This is a location that bakes in the summer heat every summer, and they don't even flinch.

Bumblebees adore their fuzzy pink flowers. Song birds love it for it's seed in the Fall and the cover it offers through the rest of the year. And, it's a butterfly host plant for Lorquin's Admiral, Spring Azure, and quite a few moth species, in addition to, providing nectar to butterflies. I've even seen hummingbirds feeding from the flowers!

Because the seeds are so small (like elongated dust) it is impossible to count out individual seeds and are instead sold in weight increments of 40mg (200+ seeds) and germination instructions are included.

Douglas Spirea at a glance

Average growth dimensions - 2-8 ft tall x 3-8 ft wide

Dormancy - Winter dormant

Plant type - Native shrub

Sun - Full sun - part shade

Water - Wet - dry

Flowering time - June - September

Flower color - Purplish-pink

Soil preference - Highly adaptable

</g:description>

      <g:title>Gardener's Hand Salve (Yarrow & Gumweed infused Olive Oil Hand Salve)</g:title>
      <g:description>
I've been making this wonderful salve for a couple of years now to moisturize my hands when they get chapped and dried from working in the soil, in addition to the seasonal drying that seems to happen every year when Fall gives way to Winter and my knuckles inevitably begin to crack. After trying over the counter products too numerous to count I gave up and decided to try to make my own. Much to my surprise, this lovely salve works where so many others have failed me.

This salve is a blend of olive oil infused with Yarrow, Willamette Valley Gumweed, and English Lavender with shea butter and beeswax. It has a lovely Lavender & beeswax-honey aroma.

The consistency is a tad firmer than many salves on the market - closer to a soft wax. Scrap it with your nail and smooth it over patches of dry skin and Winter skin splits. The firmer consistency will help the salve stay where you want it to - reducing the likelihood of it running off or smearing on clothing. If you need it to be firmer it can be cooled in the fridge.

One heads up when using:

Yarrow is known to be toxic to cats and dogs. Don't let your furry friend lick this salve and refrain from petting while the salve is fresh on your skin. I use this salve as part of my bedtime routine (when the cats are curled at the end of the bed) and let sleep aid the salve's soothing moisture mojo!

Returns: Due to the nature of the product, we cannot accept returns, but please reach out if you experience any issues.
</g:description>

      <g:description>
Oregon is home to so many showy native annual wildflowers and Large-Flowered Collomia is no exception! This beauty sports clusters of salmon colored flowers and each flower is decorated with light blue pollen! You can tell which bees have been visiting Large-Flowered Collomia by their blue pollen pockets!

Native from British Columbia to Southern Oregon, this tough and striking little wildflower can take some abuse! If seed sown by late Winter this little guy will require no irrigation and can grow in full sun to part shade. It can tolerate a wide range of soils, and when happy will self sow profusely! It's gorgeous in a mass planting or as part of a native meadow mix!

Each seed packet contains 100 seeds and germination instructions are included.

Large-Flowered Collomia at a glance

Average growth dimensions - 1.5-2 ft tall x .5-1 ft wide

Dormancy - Dies each Winter and will happily self sow! <g:title>Prairie Junegrass (Koeleria macrantha)</g:title>
      <g:description>
Prairie Junegrass is a lovely native clump grass for areas with full sun. It's highly adaptable to different growing environments. It can tolerate moist to dry soils (though it prefers good drainage) and a wide range of soils including sand, rocky soils, and clay. It makes an elegant addition to any flower bed including rock gardens. In late Spring Prairie Junegrass sends up beautiful fluffy seed plumes, which turn a lovely straw-tan color as they mature. Song birds will rejoice if these seed plumes are left through the Winter! Prairie Junegrass is a host plant for quite a few skipper butterflies and various moth species, as well as, providing nesting sites for native bees!

This long lived grass can reach 3 ft tall while in flower and 2 ft wide. It's a cool season grass, actively growing in Spring and Fall, with a Summer dormancy.

Prairie Junegrass is a fantastic companion plant for other native wildflowers including Checkermallows, Golden Rod, Douglas Aster, Self Heal, Oregon Sunshine, and our many native annuals to name a few!

Each packet contains 1/8 teaspoon - (Roughly 250 seeds) and germination instructions are included.

Prairie Junegrass at a glance

Average growth dimensions - 8-36 inches tall x 1-2 ft wide (tallest when in flower)

Dormancy - Summer dormant (cool season grass)

Plant type - Native grass

Sun - Full sun

Water - Moist - dry

Flowering time - May - June

Flower color - Ivory - tan plumes

Soil preference - Adaptable as long as soil is well draining

</g:description>

      <g:title>Awl-Fruited Sedge  (Carex stipata)</g:title>
      <g:description>
Awl-Fruited Sedge is a pretty, moisture loving sedge native to nearly the whole of the USA and beyond. It's commonly found in wetlands, along stream and lake banks, valleys, forest edges, and ditches. It can tolerate quite a lot of moisture, and has no issue growing in standing water. Awl-Fruited Sedge would be a wonderful rain garden addition. In part-shade Awl-Fruited Sedge can tolerate some drought if mulched heavily (Watered 1x/wk). It is a host plant for some species of Skipper butterflies, its seeds are eaten by birds, and leaves are used by some birds as nesting materials. Awl-Fruited Sedge is considered a cool season species, growing primarily in Spring and Fall with a Winter dormant period.

Each packet contains 100 seeds and germination instructions are included.

Awl Fruited Sedge at a glance

Average growth dimensions - 2-3 ft tall x 1-2 ft wide

Dormancy - Summer deciduous (cool weather sedge)

Plant type - Perennial sedge

Sun - Full sun - part shade

Water - Wet - moist

Flowering time - May - July

Flower color - Green with brown highlights

Soil preference - Highly adaptable as long as moisture requirements are met

</g:description>

      <g:title>Fringecup  (Tellima grandiflora)</g:title>
      <g:description>
Fringecup is a fantastic ground cover for the shady garden. Once established, they are very adaptable and tough. When planted en masse they are gorgeous! The first photo shows a Fringecup grove in Forest Park in Portland, Oregon - look close enough and you can see how effectively it is suppressing weeds like Herb Roberts! Fringecup spreads via rhizomes and are excellent self-seeders. When happy they can multiply quickly! They blend very well with other native shade ground covers such as Pacific Waterleaf, Oregon Oxalis, False Lily of the Valley, Western Columbine, etc. They require a fair amount of moisture when first planted, but once established they are quite drought tolerant! Fringecup grows happily in shade - part shade, and in a variety of soil types including clay, loam, and rich forest or garden soil. In mild climates they are semi Winter deciduous-evergreen. Their flowers attract native bees. flies, and hummingbirds!

Because the seeds are so small (slightly larger than dust) it is impossible to count out individual seeds and are instead sold in weight increments of 50mg (150+ seeds) and germination instructions are included.

Fringecup at a glance

Average growth dimensions - 2-2.5 ft tall x 1.5-2 ft wide

Dormancy - Winter deciduous / summer deciduous (drought adaptation)

Plant type - Perennial herb

Sun - Part shade - shade

Water - Moist - dry

Flowering time - April - May

Flower color - Greenish white - pink

Soil preference - Adaptable, but prefers soil rich in organic matter (loamy forest floors)

</g:description>

      <g:title>Willamette Valley Gumweed  (Grindelia integrifolia)</g:title>
      <g:description>
Willamette Valley Gumweed is a tough and beautiful plant for the native garden, as well as, a valuable late season food source for native pollinators! It's super easy to grow from seed and can tolerate a wide variety of soil types (hard rocky soil, sandy/rocky/salty shorelines, clay soil, watered garden beds, fence lines, roadsides, etc). It prefers full sun, and once established will happily survive on rainwater alone (will also happily accept irrigation). This short lived perennial grows 3-4 ft tall and 1-2 ft wide. It's life cycle is more closely related to a biennial than a perennial. It blooms long and vigorously with a high seed production (for many a grateful song bird). Despite the heavy seed production this lovely plant is never aggressive in the garden.

Willamette Valley Gumweed can be found in the wild West of the Cascades from British Columbia to Northern California. As the name implies, Gumweed has a sticky resinous/gummy texture to the leaves and flower buds. The resin has a pleasant smell to most people, and is beneficial (similar to Calendula) as an addition to oil infusions for salves. This resin also seems to effectively discourage deer browse!

Each seed packet contains 100 seeds and germination instructions are included.

Willamette Valley Gumweed at a glance

Average growth dimensions - 3-4 ft tall x 1-2 ft wide

Dormancy - Winter deciduous

Plant type - Short lived perennial herb

Sun - Full sun - part shade

Water - Wet - dry

Flowering time - June - September

Flower color -  Yellow

Soil preference - Highly adaptable

</g:description>

      <g:title>Red Elderberry  (Sambucus racemosa)</g:title>
      <g:description>
Red Elderberry is an important and beautiful wildlife shrub/ small tree. It is very easy to grow in the native home garden. In the Spring it is bedecked in big clusters of white flowers that later become clusters of little red berries. These red berries are edible when cooked (toxic to humans when raw), but are better suited as food for birds and other wildlife. Red Elderberry shrubs grow quickly and make beautiful living screens, large hedges, and lovely focal points for garden beds.

This beautiful shrub is commonly found on riparian forest edges and prefers a bit of moisture. However, as birds eat the berries and distribute the consumed seeds, they can also be found upland in drier regions such as the dry shade beneath trees. They can be found in vernally wet meadows that dry out through the summer, and have evolved some drought adaption once established. They can grow in full sun to full shade. Generally they need more moisture as their sun exposure increases. They tend to flower more in full sun leading to a bigger berry production. They grow better in clay rather than sandy soils.

Red Elderberry flowers are attractive to hummingbirds, butterflies, and native bees. They are a host plant for 37 species of butterflies and moths including the Echo Azure Butterfly. The stems are hollow which provide nesting cavities for native bees including mason bees. They're an important food source for quite a few mammals including bear, deer, and elk. And, of course, they are loved by song birds who use the shrub for cover, nesting, and food. Elderberry seeds are some of the native seeds that benefit from summer sowing. They require a warm moist stratification period followed by a cold moist period.

Each seed packet contains 60 seeds and germination instructions are included.

Red Elderberry at a glance

Ave. growth dimensions - 8-18 ft tall x 10 ft wide

Dormancy - Winter deciduous

Plant type - Shrub/ small tree

Sun - Sun - shade

Water - Moist - dry shade

Flowering time - Late March - May

Flower color - White

Soil preference - Adaptable

</g:description>

      <g:title>Blue Elderberry  (Sambucus caerulea)</g:title>
      <g:description>
Blue Elderberry is a very valuable native food bush/ small tree. It's also an incredibly beautiful bush with a lot of wildlife value! It has three seasons of garden interest with the beautiful lush leaves that sprout in the Spring, large white umbel flowers appear through Summer, followed by those beautiful blue berries it's most known for! Both the flowers and berries are edible once cooked, are highly nutritious, and can be make into delicious syrups, wines, pies, and jellies. Blue Elderberry, like the Red Elderberry, is beloved by wildlife of all kinds. Song birds value it for the abundance of insects drawn to it Spring through early Summer, followed by the delicious berries beginning in late Summer until they're all gone. Blue and Red Elderberry bushes are very complementary in the garden setting. Red Elderberry blooms easily a month earlier than the Blue, extending their beautiful flower show.

Elderberry's tend grow rapidly. It's not uncommon for a one gallon plant to reach heights of 10-15 feet in a couple of years. On the West Coast they are also surprisingly drought tolerant once established. While Red Elderberry's tend to be found most commonly along shady forest edges and riparian environments, the Blue Elderberry is most often found inland/ upland growing on cliffs, hills, roadsides, and sunny forest edges. Blue Elderberry can tolerate regular garden water as long as the soil is well draining, but it doesn't require it once established. Blue Elderberry can reach 10-30 ft in height x 10-30 ft wide in its maturity, and makes a wonderful shade tree for small yards. Elderberries take pruning very well, making them an excellent option for smaller spaces.

Each seed packet contains 60 seeds and germination instructions are included.

Blue Elderberry at a glance

Ave. growth dimensions - 10-30 ft tall x 10-30 ft wide

Dormancy - Winter deciduous

Plant type - Shrub/ small tree

Sun - Sun - part shade

Water - Moist  - dry

Flowering time - May - August

Flower color - White

Soil preference - Adaptable, as long as soil has good drainage

</g:description>

      <g:title>Blue Gilia Seed  (Gilia capitata)</g:title>
      <g:description>
Globe Gilia is another gorgeous little native annual. This charming little blue puff ball flower is loved by native bees, butterflies and predatory flies! It is very drought tolerant once established. If started from seed in the Fall or early Spring to take advantage of our rainy season you'll never have to water it, though with a few deep soaks through the Summer Globe Gilia will reward you with a bigger and longer flower show. It grows best in full sun, but can tolerate part shade. Globe Gilia thrives in many soil types including gravel, sand, clay, and poor nutrient depleted soils as long the soil has some drainage. Flowering generally begins in late Spring and continues through mid to late Summer. It pairs nicely with Elegant Tarweed, California Poppies, Clarkia, and Willamette Valley Gumweed, which all flower at the same time!

This is a very easy little wildflower to start from seed and tends to do better with direct sowing. When happy Globe Gilia will continue to self sow for a flower show the following year!

Each seed packet contains 100 seeds and germination instructions are included.

Blue Gilia at a glance

Average growth dimensions - 2-3 ft tall x 6 inches wide

Dormancy - Dies each Winter and will happily self sow! <g:description>
Seablush is a native annual that is both charming and gorgeous! It's often associated with Oregon White Oaks and Camas fields. Where Seablush is happy it can cover hills, fields, and forest edges. Its native range stretches along the West Coast from British Columbia south to California. Seablush is surprisingly tough for how delicate it appears. It can be planted in situations from vernal fields to rock gardens and is even a pretty container plant! It's gorgeous when mass planted, and will happily self-sow for the following spring's floral display. Seablush grows 4 to 24 inches tall and blooms March-June.

It's very attractive to native bees, flies and butterflies, and is the host plant for the endangered butterfly Taylor’s Checkerspot!

Each seed packet contains 75 seeds and germination instructions are included.

Seablush at a glance

Average growth dimensions - 1-2 ft tall x 4-10 inches wide

Dormancy - Dies each Winter and will happily self sow! <g:title>West Coast Goldenrod (Solidago canadensis var. elongata)</g:title>
      <g:description>
Goldenrod is a pollinator powerhouse. It's a long lived perennial that blooms from August till late October and sometimes until the first hard frost. The whole time Goldenrod is in bloom the flowers are covered in an amazing assortment of beneficial bugs - from native bees, to flies, and a huge variety of beneficial wasps!

Goldenrod is a very easy plant to grow. It will tolerate wet to dry soil, full sun to part shade and a wide array of soil types. It can be aggressive in flowerbeds when given rich soil and supplemental water, but that can be managed by limiting it's access to summer water and keeping it in unamended soil.

Goldenrod is gorgeous when planted en masse and pairs well with Douglas Aster and Pearly Everlasting which share the same bloom time.

Seeds are tiny and tend to have a static cling effect which makes counting seeds too challenging. Each packet contains 1/4 teaspoon of seed (roughly 150 seeds) and germination instructions are included.

West Coast Goldenrod at a glance

Average growth dimensions - 3-5 ft tall x 3+ ft wide

Dormancy - Winter deciduous

Plant type - Perennial herb

Sun - Full sun - part shade

Water - Moist - dry

Flowering time - June - Mid-October

Flower color -  Yellow

Soil preference - Highly adaptable

</g:description>

      <g:title>Cascara  (Rhamnus purshiana)</g:title>
      <g:description>
Cascara trees make wonderful little shade trees for small spaces, and are a powerful wildlife resource! In the Spring Cascara trees are adorned with tiny greenish yellow flowers that are mostly unnoticed by humans, but bees find them irresistible. Blooming Cascara trees are always loudly humming with the sound of bees. It is a rich food source for pollinators including Hummingbirds! It is also a host plant for quite a few Moths and Butterflies including Swallowtail and Grey Hairstreak Butterflies. In the Summer the flowers give way to beautiful berries that all seem to ripen at different times creating a beautiful mosaic of different colors (green, red, and purple) that flash as the wind blows through the branches. Cascara is a year around resource for song birds - providing a bounty of insects and berries for them to feed on and a fantastic place to nest and roost, even after the leaves have dropped for Winter.

Cascara is tolerant of many different growing conditions. It is commonly found in the wild along stream banks and in dry shady forests. It prefers moist soil but can be quite drought tolerant when grown with some shade. It can tolerate full sun, but will need to to receive deep watering every once and a while ( 3-5 wks depending on weather). Drought tolerance can be increased with 3-4" of wood chip mulch and/or shade - part shade, or native ground cover companion plants to keep the roots cool.

Each seed packet contains 15 seeds and germination instructions are included.

Cascara at a glance

Ave. growth dimensions - 30 ft tall x 20 ft wide

Dormancy - Winter deciduous

Plant type - Small tree or large shrub

Sun - Sun - part shade

Water - Moist - moderate in full sun, dry shade

Flowering time - April - June

Flower color - Yellow and greenish

Soil preference - Adaptable, prefers well draining soil high in organic material

</g:description>

      <g:title>Coyote Bush (Baccharis pilularis ssp. consanguinea)</g:title>
      <g:description>
Coyote Bush is one of my favorite native plants. It's evergreen, big (6-15 feet high and 6-8 feet wide), and flowers late Summer- Fall. They make excellent fast growing hedge plants, and will accept pruning very well (which can stimulate new growth). It is veeery popular with pollinators. When this bush flowers you see all of the bugs - bees, beetles, butterflies, moths, flies, wasps, etc. It's very popular with song birds as well! Song birds love to hide in the dense cover of Coyote Bush, and because it attracts a ridiculous number of insects it is also an excellent source of natural bird food. This wonderful bush is deer resistant, fire resistant, flood resistant (mine survived 3wks of standing water), and highly drought resistant. Plant your seedlings in the fall and let nature's winter rains do the rest.

Coyote Bush is dioecious, meaning there are both male and female plants. When you find Coyote Bush available for sale in a nursery ~99% of the time the plant will be male (flowers are small, stubby-round little yellowish sorta pill shaped flowers). The female flowers are more elongated/ pointed and white. Later in the season the female flowers will form beautiful fluffy seed heads that adorn the plant through the winter. Both draw the pollinators!

These seeds were responsibly harvested from a population of wild coyote bushes growing on a rocky bank overlooking the Columbia River near Portland, OR. They are tiny and tend to have a static cling effect which makes counting too difficult.

Each packet contains 1/4 teaspoon of seed (roughly 100-150 seeds) and germination instructions are included.

Coyote Bush at a glance

Ave. growth dimensions - 6-12 ft tall x 8-12 ft wide

Dormancy - Evergreen

Plant type - Shrub

Sun - Sun - part shade

Water - Medium - very dry

Flowering time - August - November

Flower color - White - yellowish white

Soil preference - Adaptable, as long as soil has good drainage

</g:description>

      <g:title>Riverbank Lupine  (Lupinus rivularis)</g:title>
      <g:description>
Riverbank Lupine is a wonderful pioneer native with cottage garden charm! Like all plants in the Fabaceae family, Riverbank Lupine is a nitrogen fixer - harvesting atmospheric nitrogen and enriching the soil where it grows. This trait makes it an excellent choice for poor soils and it can make an excellent choice to use as a native cover crop. Riverbank Lupine's deep taproot makes it very drought tolerant and excellent erosion control. It thrives in areas of soil disturbance, and self sows very well, making it the perfect choice for restoration projects as well. In addition to acting as a very effective soil anchor, Riverbank Lupine is a very effective mounding ground cover/ weed suppressor!

Riverbank Lupine grows in full sun - part shade, but flowers most profusely in full sun. Its natural range extends from southern British Columbia to northern California mostly on the west side of the Cascades and along the coast in California. It is a short lived perennial/ biennial when happy, but can sometimes grow as an annual. It typically flowers April - July with very showy tall flower stocks. And, the bees love them! Riverbank Lupine is beloved by bees and is a host plant for ~30 species of butterfly and moth species including the Orange Sulfur and Western Tailed Blue butterflies.

Seed packet contains 60 seeds and germination instructions are included.

Riverbank Lupine at a glance

Average growth dimensions - 3-4 ft tall x 2-3 ft wide

Dormancy - Evergreen

Plant type -  Perennial herb

Sun - Full sun - part shade

Water - Moist - dry

Flowering time - Late April - August

Flower color - Purple - blue with white highlights

Soil preference - Highly adaptable

</g:description>

      <g:title>Dark Throat Shooting Star (Dodecatheon pulchellum)</g:title>
      <g:description>
This adorable little ephemeral wildflower is one of the easiest natives to grow from seed! Dark Throat Shooting Stars are surprisingly tough little plants. Give them sun-part shade in a garden location that receives seasonal rains with little standing water and let them be! These little guys will take it from there. Similar to bulbs, Shooting Stars can be tucked in and around bushes and other perennials in the garden to give some spring green before other plants wake. They'll happily grow in forest edges, meadows, along fence lines, and in rock gardens. They are a great companion to Western Columbine, Camas, Douglas Meadowfoam, Deer Fern, Monkeyflowers and more.

Mid-late February their leaves will start to emerge followed by clusters of dainty flowers in mid-April - May. By the height of Summer these little guys will have disappeared once again until the following Spring. While dormant they require no care, and prefer no water until the Fall rains return. Dark Throat Shooting Stars are a wonderful way to welcome the Spring!

Each seed packet contains 50 seeds and germination instructions are included.

Dark Throat Shooting Star at a glance

Ave. growth dimensions - 12-16 inches tall x 8-12 inches wide

Dormancy - Spring ephemeral, disappearing with the summer heat. <g:title>Meadow Checkermallow (Sidalcea campestris)</g:title>
      <g:description>
Meadow Checkermallow is a gorgeous, long lived hollyhock like wildflower native to Oregon's Willamette Valley and no where else! It's a component of the Willamette Valley Oak Savanna meadows where it grows with to Oregon Iris, Oregon Sunshine, Prairie Cinquefoil, Shooting Stars, Camas, Seablush, Tarweed, Lupine, Yarrow, Nootka Rose, and various native bunch grasses etc. It is uncommonly found these days due to it's susceptibility to herbicides and it's tendency to grow along fencelines and road sides. Happily it is very easy to grow from seed and is well adapted to the wet Winters and bone dry Summers we have in the Willamette Valley. This charming wildflower is the host plant for quite a few butterflies and moths and is loved by our native bees! Song birds also love the seeds!

Meadow Checkermallow is a completely edible native vegetable. The leaves are a wonderful addition to soups, sautes, & salads and the flowers make a beautiful tasty addition to salads or desserts. It makes a lovely addition to many garden situations from the most formal flower bed to the wildest forgotten corner or fenceline.

Meadow Checkermallow grows best with full sun to part shade and prefers heavier soils like clay. It is very adaptable to to the garden, tolerating a wide range of moisture and soil nutrient levels. When in flower it's flower spikes can be 4-6 feet tall with clumps growing to ~2 feet wide.

Each seed packet contains 50 seeds and germination instructions are included.

Meadow Checkermallow at a glance

Average growth dimensions - 2-5 ft tall x 1-2 ft wide

Dormancy - Winter deciduous / semi-deciduous (evergreen in mild climates)

Plant type - Perennial herb

Sun - Full sun - part shade

Water - Moist - dry

Flowering time - Late May - August

Flower color - White - light pink

Soil preference - Highly adaptable (in well draining soil)

</g:description>

      <g:title>Western Columbine  (Aquilegia formosa)</g:title>
      <g:description>
Western Columbine is a charming Spring gem loved by hummingbirds and people alike! Few native wildflowers embody the feel of a cottage garden quite like the Western Columbine! It thrives in part sun with regular water, but can tolerate more drought conditions with a deep soak once/per month once established. It can also be successfully grown in full sun with a thick layer of mulch and more frequent watering. While it does prefer moist soils, it does need good drainage and airflow to prevent powdery mildew. Western Columbine is easy to start from seed and will self sow and expand into colonies if happy and allowed. Western Columbine is on the Portland Native Plant list in addition to being native to most of the West Coast!

Each seed packet contains 60 seeds and germination instructions are included.

Western Columbine at a glance

Ave. growth dimensions - 1-3 feet tall x 1-1.5 feet wide

Dormancy - Partially Winter deciduous

Plant type - Perennial herb

Sun - Full sun - shade

Water - Low - moderate (drought tolerant)

Flowering time - April - July

Flower color - Redish-orange fading to yellow near the bottom

Soil preference - Adaptable, but prefers soil rich in organic matter (loamy forest floors)

</g:description>

      <g:title>Twinberry Honeysuckle  (Lonicera involucrata)</g:title>
      <g:description>
Twinberry is an outstanding native shrub in the honeysuckle family. It has natural elegance with an almost formal rounded shape, and nearly year around visual interest. West of the Cascades this amazing bush is very drought tolerant, while still readily accepting regular garden water, and tolerating seasonal flooding. Twinberry's flowers appear in May and continue to flower through July often with berries (both forming and ripe). This creates a beautiful gem speckled look with bright yellow tube flowers and purple/black berries ringed with bright red bracts!

Bees like Twinberry flowers (you will often see Bumblebees feeding from the flowers), but Hummingbirds LOVE the flowers! Twinberry makes an excellent long flowering addition to your Hummingbird garden, flowering right as Red Flowering Currant flowers finish! Once Twinberry flowers have finished the ornamental berries hang on until the song birds happily move in to feast. Even after the berries are consumed the showy red bracts will decorate the bush for months! Deer do like Twinberry and will browse the leaves, but this plant is well adapted and quickly recovers.

Twinberry is an excellent addition to both a formal garden or an neglected corner of your yard. Twinberry grows fairly quickly. It's mature size is ~12 feet tall x 10 feet wide, and accepts pruning very well. Twinberry is deciduous, but it grows densely enough to make a very effective privacy hedge even after it has lost it's leaves for Winter. Twinberry is an excellent substitute for the more invasive European Laurel or Privet shrubs!

Each seed packet contains 50 seeds and germination instructions are included.

Twinberry Honeysuckle at a glance

Average growth dimensions - 2-12 ft tall x 3-10 ft wide

Dormancy - Winter deciduous

Plant type - Shrub

Sun - Full sun - part shade

Water - Moist - dry

Flowering time - March - August

Flower color - Yellow - yellow with reddish orange highlights

Soil preference - Highly adaptable

</g:description>

      <g:title>Sea Thrift  (Armeria maritima)</g:title>
      <g:description>
Sea Thrift plants are adorable, with their short grass clump appearance and their pink puff ball flowers! Such a cute ground cover! Sea Thrift can be found growing west of the Cascades, commonly along coastal seashores, rocky bluffs, and in well draining clay soil. This adaptation makes Sea Thrift a great choice for rock gardens, xeriscaping, or any well draining sunny location. Sea Thrift is very salt tolerant and deer resistant! They are accustomed to receiving light moisture from ocean spray and will benefit from occasional watering in gardens east of the Coast Range. Further inland, in more arid climates they will require regular irrigation. Sea Thrift does go Summer dormant when very drought stressed, and will wake and grow again with the fall rain. In my NW Oregon garden Sea Thrift tends to be evergreen through the Winter months, staying green even through heavy frost, snow, and even icy weather!

Each packet contains 75 seeds and germination instructions are included.

Sea Thrift at a glance

Average growth dimensions - 6-12 inches tall x 4-12 inches wide

Dormancy - Evergreen in mild gardens west of the Cascades

Plant type - Perennial herb

Sun - Full Sun

Water - Low

Flowering time - April - August

Flower color - Pink - light pink

Soil preference - Adaptable as long as soil is well draining

</g:description>

      <g:title>Blanket Flower  (Gaillardia aristata)</g:title>
      <g:description>
Blanket Flower is a beautiful, tough plant native to the Pacific Northwest mostly east of the Cascades. It is very drought tolerant and long blooming! In my yard they begin blooming around late May and often don't stop blooming until we've had a week of 20 degree lows (late Dec.-early Jan.). An excellent choice for xeriscaping, rock gardens, or that sunny forgotten corner of the yard that only sees rain water! Loved by all sorts of bees and a myriad of other beneficial insects. Blanket Flower has high deer resistance. In fact, the deer have never even nibbled my plants in 7 years!

Each packet contains 100 seeds and germination instructions are included.

Blanket Flower at a glance

Average growth dimensions - 3 ft tall x 2 ft wide

Dormancy - Winter deciduous - semi-deciduous (in mild climates)

Plant type -  Perennial herb

Sun - Full sun - light shade

Water - Medium - dry

Flowering time - May - December (sometimes longer)

Flower color - Orange - orange and yellow ring

Soil preference - Adaptable as long as it drains well

</g:description>

      <g:title>Nodding Onion  (Allium cernuum)</g:title>
      <g:description>
Nodding Onion are an extremely elegant native bulb. They have extremely showy pink, drooping flowers that are very attractive to bees. Their foliage tends remains after the flowers have faded until around late Summer when they finally go dormant. They are a true onion and are edible by humans though they are described as having a stronger onion flavor than your typical garden onion. The leaves also can be used similar to chives or green onions. Their strong onion flavor makes them unappealing to most animals, so they are a great addition to gardens with high deer pressure! It's also the host plant for Hairstreak Butterflies.

Nodding Onions are great additions for many locations in the garden such as rock gardens, fencelines, road sides and tucked in between other garden perennials! They are very drought tolerant once established. When happy they will spread in to little colonies via bulb reproduction and self sowing. They are very easy to divide and transplant to different parts of the yard.

Each packet contains 50 seeds and germination instructions are included.

Nodding Onion at a glance

Average growth dimensions - 6-12 inches tall x 12-18 inches wide

Dormancy - Summer dormancy when in extreme drought

Plant type - Perennial herb & native bulb

Sun - Full sun - part shade

Water - Moist - dry

Flowering time - May - July

Flower color - Whitish pink - pink

Soil preference - Rocky, well draining

</g:description>

      <g:title>Salal  (Gaultheria shallon)</g:title>
      <g:description>
Salal is a gorgeous native evergreen shrub and a common understory plant in forests of the West Coast. It has dark green, rounded, thick leathery leaves that are prized in the florist trade. Pretty pink-white urn shaped flowers that appear in late Spring and continue through Summer. These cute flowers mature into edible tasty berries that can be eaten fresh or made into jams, jellies, and cakes etc. Flowering often continues even after the bush is heavy with ripe berries! Salal is easy to grow in the home garden, but it is slow and requires patience. Once established to its satisfaction Salal's growth rate will pickup substantially growing up to 6 feet tall in shade - part shade and often as wide or wider. It spreads out via rhizomes and makes a great ground cover. Salal prefers shade - part shade and moist to dry soil. It can tolerate full sun with occasional irrigation, though it may experience some sunburn periodically. In full sun Salal generally only grows to ~3 feet tall.

Salal supports a wide range of wildlife and pollinators. Hummingbirds, bees and butterflies feed from the flowers. Song birds and a wide array of mammals relish the berries and deer, elk, and beaver enjoy the foliage. Salal is excellent for erosion control and grows wonderfully with other understory plants like Oregon Grape, Vine Maple, Oregon Oxalis, and Sword Fern etc.

Because the seeds are so small it's impossible to count out individual seeds and are instead sold in weight increments of 50mg (150+ seeds) and germination instructions are included.

Salal at a glance

Ave. growth dimensions - 1-7 feet tall x 3-12 feet wide

Dormancy - Evergreen

Plant type - Shrub

Sun - Part shade - full shade (can tolerate full sun with irrigation though might experience some sunburn in summer heat spells)

Water - Moist - dry (more moisture if in full sun, especially in summer drought)

Flowering time - April - July

Flower color - Pretty pink - white bell shaped flowers

Soil preference - Will tolerate clay, prefers soil rich in organic matter (loamy forest floors)

</g:description>

      <g:title>Bolander's Phacelia  (Phacelia bolanderi)</g:title>
      <g:description>
Bolander's Phacelia is one of those rare perennial bumblebee plants for the shady-dry part of your yard! It is native to the Central and Southern Oregon Coast extending down through the Northern California Coast, with a small scattered satellite population just east of Long Beach, Washington.

Bolander's Phacelia has a pretty sprawling habit that makes a nice ground cover. Its size can vary depending on light and water availability (5-25" tall and 10-40" wide). It is an easy plant to start from seed, and readily self-sows creating little colonies if allowed! Once established Bolander's Phacelia can survive on rainfall alone, but inland infrequent-deep watering would be beneficial and can extend the flower show.

Each packet contains 150 seeds and germination instructions are included.

Bolander's Phacelia at a glance

Ave. growth dimensions - 5 - 25 inches tall x 10 - 40 inches wide (depending on water availability)

Dormancy - Summer dormancy when drought stressed

Plant type - Perennial herb

Sun - Part sun - part shade

Water - Low - moderate

Flowering time - May - early July

Flower color - Light blue

Soil preference - Adaptable

</g:description>

      <g:title>Blackcap Raspberry  (Rubus leucodermis)</g:title>
      <g:description>
This year is the first time I've experienced the amazing, delicious, and wonderus flavor of these delicate native raspberries! Their sublime flavor has inspired the food industry's attempted re-creation in numerous processed foods. The one that I immediately thought of while trail snacking on my first Blackcaps was Frankenberry (even if Frankenberry is supposed to be strawberry). While thorny, it has lovely and delicate looking leaves and each cane is covered with a gorgeous white-green bark. Unfortunately, this year I failed to get photos of the pretty white flowers or the dark purple-red fruit of this lovely bramble. By the time I got back to the little thicket the berries not picked off by the wildlife had dried out and shriveled. These fruits are loved by the wildlife! Birds, bears, and little mammals adore these fruits so much that it was difficult to locate berries to photograph.

Blackcap's can grow in full sun to part shade. They're pretty drought tolerant once established, but appreciate moisture in well draining soil. Many of the Blackcap plants I saw while hiking were growing in the full sun of a few clear cuts, and sprawling/trellising on woody slash piles. I expect this discarded clear cut wood was acting as nurse logs for the brambles. Growing conditions that can easily be duplicated in the home garden with wood chips, piled branch clippings, or even a stump from a removed tree (drill the stump and turn it into a planter!).

Each packet contains 75 seeds and germination instructions are included.

Blackcap Raspberry at a glance

Ave. growth dimensions - Arching/trailing 6 feet tall x 3+ feet wide

Dormancy - Winter deciduous

Plant type - Shrub

Sun - Sun - shade

Water - Moisture loving, though drought tolerant (heavily mulched with wood chips would be beneficial)

Flowering time - April - May

Flower color - White- very light pink

Soil preference - Sand, clay, and soils with poor drainage

</g:description>

      <g:title>Lanceleaf Self Heal (Prunella vulgaris var. lanceolata)</g:title>
      <g:description>
This is the West Coast subspecies of this beautiful native groundcover! Lanceleaf Self Heal has longer and narrower leaves than the subspecies found elsewhere in the world. And, the flowers are MUCH bigger and showier! This little plant is extremely versatile, tolerating a lot of different growing conditions - wet, dry, full sun, part shade, clay, salt spray, invasive weeds with sharp elbows, and other aggressive natives! Lanceleaf Self Heal is a huge draw for native bees, butterflies, predatory flies, and native wasps. It's also the host plant for the Clouded Sulphur butterfly! It is fast growing and propagates via cutting very easily. At maturity, Lanceleaf Self Heal can reach 12-18 inches tall and 12 inches wide.

Move over clover, Lanceleaf Self Heal is a fantastic addition to any lawn substitution or ecolawn seed mix! In addition to being native, which Dutch Clover cannot claim, it holds its own against weeds and invasive pasture grass very well, blooms May-September, stays green without summer water, and takes mowing and foot traffic very well.

Lanceleaf Self Heal is a wonderful addition to oil infusions for skin products like salve and soaps. It's also edible and can be added to salads, sauteed greens, or steeped for teas!

Lanceleaf Self Heal at a glance

Average growth dimensions -  4 - 19 inches tall x wide

Dormancy - Winter deciduous - semi-deciduous (in mild climates)

Plant type -  Perennial herb

Sun - Full sun - part shade

Water - Moist - dry

Flowering time - May - August (sometimes longer)

Flower color - Purple

Soil preference - Highly adaptable

</g:description>

      <g:title>Seaside Daisy  (Erigeron glaucus)</g:title>
      <g:description>
Seaside Daisy is a lovely, long blooming maritime ground cover. It is commonly found growing along the west coastline on coastal bluffs and sea shores from California through Oregon. This long blooming perennial flowers from May though September and can be coaxed into flowering longer with deadheading and periodic supplemental water. Along the coast Seaside Daisy is very drought tolerant, only requiring what the rain provides. Inland, however, it appreciates occasional irrigation (1-2 times per month) once established.

Seaside Daisy flowers hardest in full sun, but can tolerate part shade. It tends to stay short, only around a foot in height, but when happy it can reach 3 feet in width making it a great ground cover! <g:title>Western Coltsfoot (Petasites frigdus)</g:title>
      <g:description>
Western Coltsfoot or Alpine Butterbur is a lush ground cover for damp areas of the yard where weed suppression is needed. Growing to 1-2 feet tall it spreads aggressively via underground rhizomes to form a thick effective ground cover. Western Coltsfoot is commonly found growing along stream banks and in coastal zones where they benefit from frequent fog banks. Inland it prefers shade to part shade, but it can handle full sun along the coast. As it grows naturally along the coast, it is very salt tolerant. Western Coltsfoot flowers March-April, with flower stocks emerging before its leaves arrive. When flowers fade they become beautiful fluffy seed heads. Western Coltsfoot is Winter Deciduous.

Western Coltsfoot has a wide native range - stretching from Alaska to California, across Canada, Northern Europe, and Northern Asia. It is also a host plant for the Alaskan Swallowtail butterfly and Bordered Patch butterfly.

Each seed packet contains 3/4 teaspoon - Roughly 150 Seeds and germination instructions are included.

Western Coltsfoot at a glance

Average growth dimensions - 1-2 ft tall x 3+ ft wide

Dormancy - Winter deciduous

Plant type - Perennial herb

Sun - Mostly sunny - mostly shady

Water - Moist - wet

Flowering time - March - May

Flower color - White - pinkish white

Soil preference - Adaptable, but prefers moist soil rich in organic matter (loamy forest floors)

</g:description>

      <g:title>Rydberg's Penstemon  (Penstemon rydbergii)</g:title>
      <g:description>
Rydberg's Penstemon is a beautiful wildflower gem with flowers ranging from blue to purple with hints of pink, all growing in whorls of flowers and buds on a single stock. Its range in Oregon and Washington is primarily East of the Cascade Range along seeps, creeks, and wet meadows. From there this beautiful wildflower's range extends to the Montana Rocky Mts. and South from California to New Mexico. Rydberg's Penstemon is a long lived wildflower loved by bees and hummingbirds for the rich nectar and song birds for the seeds!

West of the Cascades it might be the most adaptable Penstemon I have ever grown! As it prefers moist environments in its natural range, it is more tolerant of receiving water in the garden compared to most other Penstemons. In my NW Oregon garden, Rydberg's Penstemon is also pretty drought tolerant. My established plants are mulched heavily in wood chips and live almost entirely on rain water. They only receive supplemental water in the summer before big heatwaves. In hotter regions and scorching full sun locations (like hell-strips) they probably would require more irrigation, but the flower show would be worth it!

Each seed packet contains 100 seeds and germination instructions are included.

Rydberg's Penstemon at a glance

Ave. growth dimensions - 1-3 feet tall x 3 feet wide

Dormancy - Winter deciduous

Plant type - Perennial herb

Sun - Full sun - part shade

Water - Moist - dry (drought tolerant, but prefers regular water)

Flowering time - May - August (sometimes until October!)

Flower color - Blue & purple

Soil preference -  Adaptable

</g:description>

      <g:title>Showy Milkweed  (Asclepias speciosa)</g:title>
      <g:description>
The name describes this flower exactly! It's very showy! Big beautiful clusters of pink flowers form a round globe shape framed by very large, leathery, lance-oval shaped leaves with pink veins. Also as the name implies, this plant exudes a milky sap when cut that is toxic, yet gives the Monarch Caterpillar its poisonous protection from predators.

This plant is slow to grow from seed, and may take many years to reach flowering maturity (mine took 4 years) but the wait is well worth it!! Even if you live outside of the Monarch Butterfly migratory zone this plant is still worth growing. It's rich in nectar and attracts hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies (of course!).

Showy Milkweed can grow up to 48 inches tall and 36+ inches wide. It spreads horizontally via rhizomes and can form thick stands when happy. Best to give it some elbow room! Showy Milkweed grows best in full sun in dry-medium dry soil and is tolerant of many different soil types as long as they are well draining. It is Winter deciduous, turning a beautiful golden yellow through the Fall. Showy Milkweed takes its time to emerge in the Spring, so don't despair. Spring growth doesn't show until May in NW Oregon! Flowers appear June-July and continue to flower through August. Giant seed pods form once the flowers fade. These seed pods split open to reveal the fluffiest seeds mass! Beautiful!

Each packet contains 75 seeds and germination instructions are included.

Showy Milkweed at a glance

Average growth dimensions - 4-6 ft tall x 4 ft wide

Dormancy - Winter deciduous

Plant type -  Perennial herb

Sun - Full sun

Water -  Dry - moist

Flowering time - June - August

Flower color - Pink and white

Soil preference - Adaptable, good drainage preferred

</g:description>

      <g:title>Oceanspray  (Holodiscus discolor)</g:title>
      <g:description>
Oceanspray is a tough, drought tolerant shrub with a native range West of the Rocky Mountains From British Columbia south to Arizona and California. In the wild it is commonly found growing on rocky hills and cliffs, though it is also found on road sides and forest edges. It is a beautiful shrub year around with graceful arching branches and lovely lobed leaves, however, when in bloom it's transformed from merely beautiful to gorgeous. When in bloom Oceanspray is covered with white frothy, cascading flower clusters that make this bush glow! Once the flowers have faded the clusters hang on the plant as beautiful, beige colored, cascading seed heads the rest of the year adding Winter interest to the garden. Oceanspray is very attractive to pollinators, including hummingbirds and songbirds (for the insects and seeds).

Oceanspray is happy to grow in nearly any situation once established - full sun to mostly shade, moist to dry soil, clay soil, and heavy deer pressure. When fire hardened Oceanspray's branches can be used to create very strong tool handles, arrow shafts, nails, etc. making it a useful permaculture and homesteading plant! It's a wonderful addition to a fence line, privacy hedge or as a garden specimen. These seeds were harvested late in the Summer 2025, and are sustainably harvested from forests around St. Helens, Oregon.

Each packet contains 300 seeds and germination instructions are included.

Oceanspray at a glance

Average growth dimensions - 10-20 ft tall x 8-12 ft wide

Dormancy - Winter dormant

Plant type - Native shrub

Sun - Full sun - mostly shady (not full shade)

Water - Moist - dry

Flowering time - Late May - August

Flower color - Pure white, fades to ivory with age

Soil preference - Highly adaptable

</g:description>

      <g:title>Oregon Iris  (Iris tenax)</g:title>
      <g:description>
This gorgeous native Iris blooms May-June with a large flower display (Photo of Iris in bloom en masse is a single plant). Depending on your elevation and garden's micro-climate this Iris will be semi-deciduous. This is how it behaves in my garden. Throughout the winter it has green leaf spikes, even covered in snow.

I have been experimenting with planting seedlings along our gravel driveway. Both directly in the gravel and in gravel mixed with soil. With regular biweekly watering to help them get established through the summer it appears they are tough enough to handle rock garden life as well as clay, loam, forest duff etc.

Once established Oregon Iris doesn't want any summer water. Afternoon shade is best in hot sites. Unlike their European relatives, Oregon Iris does not divide well. It is possible to kill your plant if you try.

Each seed packet contains 30 seeds and germination instructions are included.

Oregon Iris at a glance

Ave. growth dimensions - 1 -1.5 ft tall x 1 - 2 ft wide

Dormancy - Winter deciduous/ semi-deciduous

Plant type - Perennial herb

Sun - Full sun - part shade

Water - Dry - moist well draining

Flowering time - March - July

Soil preference - Sandy, loamy, rocky, draining clay

</g:description>

      <g:title>Douglas Iris  (Iris douglasiana)</g:title>
      <g:description>
Douglas Iris is the only evergreen Iris native to the West Coast! It's very showy, grows vigorously, is drought tolerant (in its maritime climate), and is deer resistant! It's thick, wide, sword-like leaves and evergreen nature make it an excellent ground cover. Douglas Iris can grow in full sun to deep shade, preferring heavier soils, and tolerating serpentine soil. This plant also tolerates salt spray and wind! Each flower stock often sports 2-3 flowers and flower color can range from deep purple to a light violet-blue, sometimes even white, pink or yellow! Plants generally grow 1-2 feet tall and 2-4 feet wide.

Douglas Iris self-sows when happy creating beautiful colonies that livestock and deer avoid. It hybridizes with other nearby native Irises leading to some very pretty flower colors in the Pacific Coast Iris family. Some natural crosses found in the wild are between Douglas Iris (Iris douglasiana) X Golden Iris (Iris innominata) and Douglas Iris (Iris douglasiana) X Oregon Iris (Iris tenax). Unlike Oregon Iris, Douglas Iris can be divided successfully! The ideal time for division is late Winter-early Spring when the new growth is emerging. This is also the best way to propagate any neat natural hybrids you might find growing in your garden!

Douglas Iris is a fantastic plant for nearly any situation, from drainage ditch and rain garden, to the pasture and fenceline, to your shady woodland garden!

Each seed packet contains 60 seeds and germination instructions are included.

Douglas Iris at a glance

Ave. growth dimensions - 1-2 ft tall x 2-4 ft wide

Dormancy - Evergreen

Plant type - Perennial herb

Sun - Full sun - deep shade

Water - Low - moderate

Flowering time - March - July in Oregon

Soil preference - Heavy rich - poor

</g:description>

      <g:title>Western Bleeding Heart  (Dicentra formosa)</g:title>
      <g:description>
While there are many cultivars of Bleeding Heart on the market, our own West Coast native Bleeding Heart is gorgeous. Beautiful heart shaped light pink flowers bob merrily above elegant fern like leaves. Our native species is well adapted to the very wet Winter-Springs and bone dry Summers of the West Coast. It thrives in shade gardens with the rich loam or clay soil commonly found in forests. Bleeding Heart can spread aggressively via rhizomes when happy, but it weaves in and around other woodland plants into a tapestry of textures and colors rather than growing over plant neighbors. This trait makes it an excellent ground cover for shady corners, woodland gardens, and under taller perennials and shrubs.

Bleeding Heart prefers moist soil, but once established it is quite drought tolerant. It also has adapted a summer dormancy when moisture is scarce. Just like our other Spring ephemerals, when Bleeding Heart goes dormant it disappears from sight until the rains return in the Fall.

Each seed packet contains 30 seeds and germination instructions are included.

Western Bleeding Heart at a glance

Average growth dimensions - 8-19 inches tall x 2+ wide

Dormancy - Winter Deciduous / summer deciduous (drought adaptation)

Plant type - Perennial herb

Sun - Part shade - shade

Water - Moist - dry

Flowering time - March - August (with regular irrigation)

Flower color - Light pink - pink

Soil preference - Adaptable, but prefers soil rich in organic matter (loamy forest floors)

</g:description>

      <g:title>Slender Cinquefoil  (Potentilla gracilis)</g:title>
      <g:description>
Slender Cinquefoil is a pretty and tough little native in the rose family. It's beautiful, delicate looking yellow flowers attract loads of pollinators from syrphid flies, to butterflies, and clouds of tiny native bees! It's a host plant for the Purplish Copper and the Two-Banded Checker Skipper butterflies, as well as, the Strawberry Crown moth.

Slender Cinquefoil is very easy to start from seed, is extremely forgiving in the garden, and is very long lived. It can take quite a lot of abuse and continue to grow happily. It can tolerate a wide variety of growing conditions and soils including full to part sun, seasonal flooding, drought, weed competition, clay, gravel, etc. Water to establish the first season then let it go with seasonal rainfall. Slender Cinquefoil makes a lovely ground cover for 3+ seasons, only really dying back after a few hard Winter freezes, then quickly bouncing back once again! Most of the year it grows in a pretty, neat little mound ~1 ft tall x 1.5 ft wide. While in bloom it can rise up to ~2 ft tall with an open airy flower habit.

In NW Oregon, Slender Cinquefoil begins to bloom around the end of May and continues to bloom into July. This can be extended later into the summer with supplemental irrigation.

Each seed packet contains 100 seeds and germination instructions are included.

Slender Cinquefoil at a glance

Average growth dimensions - 2 ft tall x 1-2 ft wide

Dormancy - Winter deciduous - semi deciduous

Plant type - Perennial herb

Sun - Full sun - part shade

Water - Wet - dry

Flowering time - May - August

Flower color -  Yellow

Soil preference - Highly adaptable

</g:description>

      <g:description>
Pacific Aster is a gorgeous late season perennial wildflower and important nectar/pollen food source for all sorts of native pollinators. Growing around 3-4 feet tall and at least 3 feet wide in full sun to part shade, this heavy bloomer needs very little water once established. This wonderful native is just aggressive enough to hold its own against most weed invaders! Give it plenty of room to expand so it doesn't crowd out desired treasures in your garden, then sit back and enjoy the show!

Each seed packet contains 100 seeds and germination instructions are included.

Pacific Aster at a glance

Ave. growth dimensions - 1-3 feet tall x 3+ feet wide

Dormancy - Winter deciduous

Plant type - Perennial herb

Sun - Full sun - part shade

Water - Moist - dry (drought tolerant, but can handle standing water)

Flowering time - Late June - October

Flower color - Pretty Purple, pinkish, whitish

Soil preference - Prefers loamy clay, clay

</g:description>

      <g:title>Douglas Aster  (Symphyotrichum subspicatum)</g:title>
      <g:description>
Douglas Aster is a wonderful, rambunctious late season perennial wildflower! An Oregon State University study looking at native plants and native pollinators found that Douglas Aster attracted the highest diversity of visiting bee species, as well as, the highest abundance of visiting bees compared to the other native flowers in the study. What a valuable pollinator plant!!

It can tolerate nearly any environmental condition - wet, dry, full sun, part shade, clay, salt spray, invasive weeds with sharp elbows, and other aggressive natives! It can be a bit of a thug in the garden making it best for the back of a flower bed or in a wilder garden patch. It blooms from August until frost and is very complimentary when grown with Golden Rod, which blooms around the same time. Size can very greatly. Most size estimates I have seen list Douglas Aster as growing 2-4 feet tall and 2 feet wide. My tallest plants grow nearly 6 feet tall each year and are approaching 2 feet wide now!

Each seed packet contains 100 seeds and germination instructions are included.

Douglas Aster at a glance

Average growth dimensions - 2-6 feet tall x 2+ feet wide

Dormancy - Winter deciduous

Plant type - Perennial herb

Sun - Full sun - part shade

Water - Moist - dry

Flowering time - June - Mid-October

Flower color -  Purple - purplish-white

Soil preference - Highly adaptable

</g:description>

      <g:title>Elegant Tarweed  (Madia elegans)</g:title>
      <g:description>
Elegant Tarweed is a beautiful annual wildflower native to the Pacific Northwest. It is well loved by many beneficial insects including native bees, native flies, and native parasitic wasps. At the end of their growing season the seeds are relished by many songbirds including finches, juncos, pine siskins, quail, etc.

Elegant Tarweed is the star of garden in the early morning hours and glows as the sun rises! In response to the heat of the day Elegant Tarweed rolls it's flowers up tight to conserve water until evening when the flower petals once again unfurl. Elegant Tarweed has a sticky resinous coating on its leaves that smells like a citrusy-pineapple and the seeds it produces are edible. Elegant Tarweed is drought tolerant and can grow 5 feet tall or more making it a nice background garden plant for garden edges, fence lines, or anywhere a little wild is desired!

Each packet contains 100 seeds and germination instructions are included.

Elegant Tarweed at a glance

Average growth dimensions - 1-5 ft tall x 1-2 ft wide

Dormancy - Dies each Winter and will happily self sow! <g:title>Clarkia Mix</g:title>
      <g:description>
Clarkias!! Cheerful, bright, and beautiful! These Pacific Northwest native annuals are an important source of food and nesting materials for our native bees! As illustrated in the last photo, Clarkia flowers provide important nesting materials for leaf cutter bees! Leaf cutter bees cut away round sections of Clarkia flower petals to create their nest cocoons.
This seed mix is composed of primarily of Farewell to Spring Clarkia (Clarkia amoena) with some Four Spot Clarkia (Clarkia purpurea ssp. quadrivulnera) and Diamond Clarkia (Clarkia rhomboidea) mixed in.
Clarkias grow best in full sun and bloom late Spring-late Summer. The best time to sow seeds is late Fall - late Winter during the rainy season, which gives ample time and moisture for these plants to germinate and set deep healthy roots for our dry Summer months. Clarkias don't require Summer water if sown in the rainy season, and will happily self-sow for the following year!

Each seed packet contains 100 seeds and germination instructions are included.

Clarkia at a glance

Average growth dimensions - 2-3 ft tall x 1-2 ft wide

Dormancy - Dies each Winter and will happily self sow! <g:title>Scarlet Monkeyflower (Erythranthe cardinalis)</g:title>
      <g:description>
A gorgeous, moisture loving hummingbird magnet and PNW native. Scarlet Monkeyflower starts blooming in early summer and continues through fall with some deadheading. When happy these plants will generally grow 2-3 feet tall and almost as wide and will happily self sow if moisture needs are met (1-2 deep soaks a week in part shade with mulch). Scarlet Monkeyflower is a deciduous perennial that will die back in late Fall/ early Winter (temperature depending) and emerge again late Winter/ early Spring. In addition to propagating with their tiny almost dust like seeds, these plants can be easily propagated by root divisions.

Because the seeds are so small (like dust) it is impossible to count out individual seeds and are instead sold in weight increments of 30mg (200+ seeds) and germination instructions are included.

Scarlet Monkeyflower at a glance

Average growth dimensions - 2-3 ft tall x 3 ft wide

Dormancy - Winter dormancy

Plant type -  Perennial herb

Sun - Part shade - full sun

Water - Moist - wet

Flowering time - Late April - Sept. (with deadheading)

Flower color - Red, orange

Soil preference - Adaptable (clay, sand, serpentine)

</g:description>

      <g:title>Oregon Sunshine (Eriophyllum lanatum)</g:title>
      <g:description>
Oregon Sunshine might be the most cheerful PNW native wildflower! It's extremely easy to grow from seed, and once established it's extremely low maintenance! Oregon Sunshine makes a wonderful silver-grey ground cover for sunny areas. It's mostly evergreen in my garden and typically blooms May through mid-June. Oregon Sunshine is very adaptable to soil type as long as it has good drainage (no standing water). Its growth can be restrained by limiting the amount of water it receives to seasonal rains, which will also extend its lifespan. With supplemental water Oregon Sunshine can get up to 2' tall and at least as wide with an explosion of blooms. This will shorten the plant's lifespan and greatly increase the number of seeds produced for future plants!

Each seed packet contains 150 seeds and germination instructions are included.

Oregon Sunshine at a glance

Average growth dimensions - 1-3 ft tall x 2 ft wide

Dormancy - Semi summer deciduous (drought response)

Plant type -  Perennial herb

Sun - Full sun - part shade

Water - Medium - very dry (with good drainage)

Flowering time - Late April - August

Flower color - Yellow

Soil preference - Adaptable as long as soil drains well

</g:description>
